Palm Sunday Path press release
People of faith communities from many denominations and traditions will gather at Houdini Plaza, Appleton, in peaceful, non-violent solidarity on March 29 as part of the Palm Sunday Path movement. The rally will take place from 1 to 3 p.m.
Palm Sunday Path, which is being led locally by ESTHER-Fox Valley in cooperation with about a dozen faith communities of different denominations, is a growing movement of people of faith and their neighbors who have decided now is the time to stand up to rising authoritarianism and white Christian nationalism in the US.
Endorsed by the Wisconsin Council of Churches and supported by partners across Wisconsin, the event brings together people of diverse faith communities and neighbors who care about strengthening democracy, resisting authoritarianism, and living out shared values of compassion and dignity for all people.
According to planners of the local event, Palm Sunday Path is "an opportunity to walk together across differences" and make "shared values visible." The event is described as "a welcoming, nonviolent space for community members of all backgrounds."
The Fox Cities event will include singing, comments by local faith leaders, a call to action, and benediction. Individuals and groups who are able are invited to walk to Houdini Plaza from faith communities and gathering points in downtown Appleton. Transportation will be available for those who need assistance in getting to the rally site.
Event details and a registration form can be found at https://esther-foxvalley.org/palmsundayreg
An added feature will be availability of vote411.org information for anyone wishing to learn how to register to vote.
Palm Sunday Path events also are being planned in a number of Wisconsin cities in addition to the Fox Cities, including Oshkosh, Madison and Janesville among others, and several states.
