LWV looking to mobilize more than 8 million voters for change
According to a Harvard Study, when nonviolent protests achieve a threshold of 3.5 percent of the voting age population, they have never failed to bring about meaningful change

On April 17 the League of Women Voters of the US declared that the country is in a constitutional crisis due to the Trump Administration’s defiance of a 9-0 Supreme Court order to return a wrongfully deported individual to the U.S.
In response, the League launched 'Unite and Rise 8.5' on May 1. The League seeks to mobilize 8.5 million voters using a multi-pronged approach through civic education, partnership building, and legal advocacy to help educate voters and drive change.
Why 8.5 million voters? According to a Harvard Study, when nonviolent protests achieve a threshold of 3.5 percent of the voting age population, they have never failed to bring about meaningful change. Eight-point-five million is 3.5 percent of the estimated 245 million people eligible to vote in 2024.
There will be numerous opportunities to engage. You don’t have to be a member of the League to participate. Because we are staunchly nonpartisan, it doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat, Republican, or independent.
The inaction of Congress threatens the rule of law and the constitutional balance of power. Our liberties, our Constitution, and our democracy are at imminent risk. On our League’s website, lwvappletonfoxcities.org you will find information on how to contact your representatives as well as complete background information and talking points.
Together we can make a difference. We the people hold our democracy in our hands.
